Is aoibhinn linn an Ghaeilge sa scoil seo.  We are very proud of the high standard of Irish in our school and have successfully achieved three flags in the Gaelbhratach programme.  The teaching of Irish in Our Lady’s Abbey is oral based and focuses on the themes of Mé Féin (Myself), Bia (Food), Ag Siopadóireacht (Shopping), An Scoi (School), Sa Bhaile (Home),  Caitheamh Aimsire (Hobbies),  An Aimsir (Weather), An Teilifís (Television) agus Ócaidí Speisialta (Special Occasions).

Irish is used informally everyday in the classroom, for example greeting people, giving messages, simple instructions and saying goodbye everyday.  It is further supported by the use of colourful signs and posters in Irish around the school.  Drama, sketches, discussions, debates and games are all used to promote the enjoyment of learning Irish.  Every year, Seachtain na Gaeilge is celebrated in the school through Cluichí Gaeilge (Irish Games), a Céilí Mór and performances by each class of Irish songs, poems and tinwhistle  tunes they have learned through the year.
