Our Lady's Abbey is a Digital School of Distinction. We have been awarded this honour to acknowledge our efforts in promoting and using ICT to deliver the best educational experience for pupils. The school is very well equipped with networked laptops as well as sets of iPads. All children receive timetabled ICT classes every week. Each classroom is also equipped with an Interactive Smartboard. There is a very strong ICT culture in the school, with teachers striving to integrate ICT into all curricular areas.
Children are provided with many learning experiences in programmes such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Photostory, Comic Life, Book Creator and Adobe Spark. Coding is also encouraged through Hour of Code, Scratch, Lego WeDo and Bee Bots.
Furthermore, the school has a library of child friendly software, digital microphones and visualisers for use in class.
“This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to support numeracy, problem solving and computational thinking, using technology such as robotics, coding and so on; activities to support literacy, and curriculum delivery of subjects such as history using digital storytelling."
